Wellington Beds proudly supports the New Zealand wool industry and our wool is considered some of the best in the world.

Wool has several benefits when used in a mattress, including:

Temperature Regulation: Wool is naturally breathable and helps regulate body temperature. It can keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter, making it an ideal material for year-round use.

Moisture Absorption: Wool fibers can absorb up to 30% of their weight in moisture without feeling damp. This makes wool ideal for wicking away moisture and keeping you dry throughout the night.

Hypoallergenic: Wool is naturally hypoallergenic and resistant to bacteria, mold, and mildew. It can help reduce the symptoms of allergies and asthma by keeping dust mites at bay.

Fire Retardant: Wool is naturally flame-resistant, making it a safer option for mattresses. It will smolder instead of catching fire, providing an added layer of protection in case of a fire.

Durability: Wool is a durable material that can withstand wear and tear, making it a good investment for a long-lasting mattress.

Comfort: Wool is a soft and comfortable material that provides cushioning and support. It can help alleviate pressure points and provide a more restful sleep.

Overall, wool is an excellent choice for a mattress because of its many benefits. It is a natural and sustainable material that provides comfort, support, and safety.

Pocket springs are individual coils or springs that are encased in fabric pockets. Each spring is wrapped in its own fabric pocket, which helps to isolate the movement of the spring from its neighbors. This means that when you move on one side of the bed, the springs on the other side won’t be affected, resulting in less disturbance for your partner during sleep. Pocket springs provide a range of benefits:

First, they can help to reduce motion transfer, meaning that you are less likely to be disturbed by your partner’s movements during sleep.

Second, because the springs are individually wrapped, they can contour to your body shape and provide targeted support where you need it most.

Finally, pocket spring mattresses tend to be more durable than other types of mattresses, as the individual springs can adjust to different levels of pressure without compromising the overall structure of the mattress.

We use 24cm spring that is compressed into an 18.5cm pocket. Being recompressed means the springs retain there shape over a longer period of time and thus, last longer. There durability also means they can carry a higher body weight compared to traditional pocket springs. A lower profile means we can also use a substantial amount of quality comfort layers, without customers having to buy specials sheets to fit the depth of the mattress. We often see other manufacturers opting for a taller spring, which means less comfort layers but still the premium price tag.

Our pocket springs are unique in providing five zones with differing levels levels of reinforcement and strength. The reinforced middle section prevents indentation and roll together, the medium upper section still offers superior support, while also helping to relieve pressure of the shoulders. The system provides a durable, long lasting support system and we generally see lower indentation than traditional pocket spring systems. We don’t use a higher number of zones (7 or 9) as the zones become too small and do not align for people of differing heights.

Overall, pocket spring mattresses are a popular choice for people looking for a comfortable and supportive mattress that can help reduce motion transfer and provide long-lasting durability.

Our unique UltraCoil pocket spring system involves a smaller style and higher concentration of springs, making it an extremely durable and supportive system with up to 4 times more springs compared to conventional pocket spring beds. More springs generally offers more support and an even greater reduction in partner disturbance.

Like our standard pocket spring system, UltraCoil includes five zones with differing levels levels of reinforcement and strength. The reinforced middle section prevents indentation and roll together, the medium upper section still offers superior support, while also helping to relieve pressure of the shoulders. The system provides a durable, long lasting support system and we generally see lower indentation than traditional pocket spring systems.

Latex is made from 100% natural rubber extracted from the Havea Brasiliensis (Rubber Tree), a renewable resource grown in Malaysia. The honeycomb consistency gives the rubber a true sponge like quality. Latex can provide several benefits when used in a mattress, including:

Pressure relief: Latex mattresses can distribute body weight evenly, reducing pressure points and allowing for a more comfortable sleep. Ideal for people who struggle to turn in bed as it “pushes back” giving a gentle spring effect.

Comfort: Latex is a naturally resilient material, providing a comfortable and supportive surface for sleeping.

Durability: Latex is known for their durability, often lasting longer than any other type of comfort layer on the market.

Breathability: Latex is a breathable material, allowing for better air circulation and helping to regulate body temperature.

Hypoallergenic: Natural latex is naturally hypoallergenic and resistant to dust mites, making it a good option for those with allergies or sensitivities.

Environmentally friendly: Natural latex is a sustainable and eco-friendly material, as it is derived from the sap of rubber trees and does not require harsh chemicals or pesticides.

Unlike many other manufacturers, we are proud to use 100% natural latex GOLD, one of the best latex’s available worldwide (and confidently 100% natural!).

Manufactured by Dunlop New Zealand, Elephant Foam is a range of superior quality cushioning foam with densities from 33kg per cubic meter to 41kg per cubic meter that is exceptionally supportive and has an unsurpassed reputation for long term durability and strength. This is why we choose to use it in our mattresses to ensure customers get long lasting durable comfort with no additional chemicals added to the products. The outstanding all-round performance of Elephant Foam makes it up to 60% stronger than most import foams as it does not contain any flame retardants or unhealthy chemicals that can off gas. Elephant Foam is Ultra-Fresh®️ treated for a healthier home environment. Ultra-Fresh®️ controls dust mites and inhibits the growth of mould, mildew and fungi.

Manufactured in New Zealand, Graphene Memory Foam®️ is an ultra plush memory foam enriched with graphene particles. Graphene is a two dimensional carbon atom which, when stacked together, becomes graphite, a material known for being an electricity conductor.

When used in a mattress, it reduces static electricity produced by the human body and fights against a bad night’s sleep. It is also odourless, anti dust mite, antibacterial and is designed to draw the heat away from the body which ensures advanced dissipation of heat. Memory foam can reduce turning during the night by up to 80% due to its pressure relieving properties, which is why it is used in many healthcare settings such as hospital beds and wheelchairs. We only use New Zealand made Graphene Memory Foam®️ as it does not contain any flame retardants or or other unhealthy chemicals that can off gas. It is also Ultra-Fresh®️ treated, which controls dust mites and inhibits the growth of mould, mildew and fungi, making for a healthier home environment.

ViscoGel is a gel infused memory foam manufactured by Dunlop New Zealand. It combines the pressure relieving memory foam with advanced gel particles to provide greater air flow and heat dissipation. The advanced gel particles are infused evenly through our superior memory foam during manufacture. The particles move closer together under pressure providing greater support and prevents the foam from bottoming under heavy loads. Heat dissipation properties of the gel provide superior body temperature regulation. ViscoGel has a wider operating temperature compared to most import memory foams meaning it provides faster contouring comfort and won’t feel any different in winter than in summer or absorb excessive amounts of heat.

Memory foam is known for its amazing pressure relieving ability and makes a superior comfort layer in any mattress. This pressure relieving property can reduce the need to turn during the night by up to 80%. It is also the reason memory foam is used in many healthcare settings such as hospital beds and wheelchair seats.

We only use New Zealand manufactured ViscoGel as it does not contain any flame retardants or unhealthy chemicals that can off gas. Our ViscoGel is also Ultra-Fresh®️ treated, which controls dust mites and inhibits the growth of mould, mildew and fungi, for a healthier home environment.
